Dunedin

Dunedin is the South Island’s second largest city and has a distinctive Scottish feel to it with many settlers having originally settled there. These days Dunedin is known as student city, as the University of Otago dominates much of the heart and culture of the city.

The stunning historical buildings and architecture dominate the inner city with the University buildings and the Railway Station the focal points. Outside of the city is the Otago Peninsula which is home to the Royal Albatross and the famous but endangered Yellow Eyed Penguin.

During the 2011 Rugby World Cup Dunedin is hosting pool games featuring England, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and qualifiers. The games will take face at Carisbrook stadium, known locally as `The House of Pain’ to visiting rugby teams because of the Otago team’s proud winning reputation at their home ground.
